The sacred representation of Good Friday
The Living Passion Play of Filiano has its roots in 1984 and is one of the most cherished events of Holy Week in the Potenza area. Organized by the Pro Loco Filiano, the sacred representation is staged every Good Friday and involves the entire community in a ritual that combines faith, memory, and participation.
For the occasion, the streets of Filiano come alive with faces, costumes, and scenes: about sixty participants in period dress embody the characters of the Passion, from Jesus to the Roman soldiers, from the holy women to the crowd. The procession winds through the village, reconstructing the stations of the Via Crucis, on a route that transforms alleys and squares into a large Easter nativity scene.
The representation is not just a spectacle, but a profound moment of collective devotion: a shared journey that renews the bond between the inhabitants and their spiritual heritage every year. The initiative is part of the life of the Municipality of Filiano, in the Province of Potenza, and attracts spectators from neighbouring towns as well.
The 39th edition of the Living Passion Play of Filiano takes place on Friday, April 3, 2026, Good Friday, starting at 4:00 PM. Organized by the Pro Loco Filiano, the representation confirms the established formula, with costumed participants bringing the village streets to life.
The details of the stations and timings for the 39th edition will be communicated by the Pro Loco Filiano in the preceding days.
The usual schedule includes:
When: Good Friday, in the late afternoon (4:00 PM).
Where: through the streets of the centre of Filiano.
Admission: free.
