About Living Passion Aprilia

The Living Passion of Christ is a grand sacred performance that brings the Parco Falcone e Borsellino in Aprilia, in the province of Latina, to life every spring on the eve of Easter. Over 120 costumed performers, almost all local residents, re-enact the most intense moments of the Stations of the Cross: from the encounters with Herod and Pontius Pilate to the Garden of Gethsemane, culminating in the Crucifixion and the Deposition. A free event that blends faith, popular theatre, and a strong sense of community.

The Living Passion of Christ in Aprilia

The Living Passion of Christ is one of the most deeply felt religious and popular events in Aprilia, a city in the province of Latina, in the heart of the Agro Pontino, Lazio. Every year, in the period leading up to Easter, the Parco Falcone e Borsellino on Via dei Mille transforms into a vast open-air stage for the sacred performance of the Passion of Jesus. It is an event that weaves together spirituality, memory, and participation, drawing a large crowd of locals and visitors every year.

A choral re-enactment with over 120 performers

The heart of the event is the live re-enactment of the Stations of the Cross, performed by over 120 actors and extras in period costumes, most of whom are citizens of Aprilia. The scenes unfold through the most intense moments of the final days of Jesus' life:

  • the encounters with Herod and Pontius Pilate;
  • the figures of Mary Magdalene and Judas;
  • the prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane;
  • the Crucifixion and the Deposition.

Every scene is meticulously crafted, from the costumes and set design to the sound effects and technical aspects, to convey the dramatic power and depth of the Gospel narrative to the audience.

Popular theatre and community

The Living Passion is more than just a devotional event: it is, above all, a community project involving local families, associations, and volunteers. None of the performers receive payment; their participation stems from passion and a sense of belonging to the city. The performance is accompanied by an educational and historical narration that guides the audience through each scene, alongside a musical score that underscores the most emotional moments of the show.

Organization and local support

The event is promoted by the Associazione Passione Vivente Gesรน Cittร  di Aprilia in collaboration with Aprilia Sociale APS, with the support of the Municipality of Aprilia, the patronage of the Lazio Region, and the contribution of numerous local sponsors. Admission is free, with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis. In case of bad weather, the event may be cancelled.

A spring appointment in the Agro Pontino

With its well-established editions, the Living Passion of Christ has become a symbol of the cultural and religious life of Aprilia, a moment when the city gathers around an ancient story brought to life by its own people. For those visiting Lazio during the Easter season, it is an opportunity to discover an authentic tradition deeply rooted in the Pontine territory.
