The international festival of live cinema and audiovisual arts in Rome
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Live Cinema Festival is the premier Italian destination for Live Cinemaโcinema created live, in real-time, before an audience. Sitting at the intersection of film screening, concert, and installation, each performance emerges from the spontaneous fusion of moving images and electronic music: no pre-recorded films, but an audiovisual narrative constructed moment by moment on stage. For over a decade, the event has brought this art form to Rome, the capital of Lazio, cementing its status as one of Europe's most important showcases for audiovisual performance art.
Organized by Flyer new media, the festival revolves around the motto "See the Sounds, Hear the Images." Over several days, the venue hosts live A/V performances, video mapping, interactive installations, and DJ/VJ sets that continue late into the night. The program alternates between Italian artists and international names from France, Austria, Romania, Tunisia, and dozens of other countries, offering the public a path that spans from experimental visual research to club culture. The formula thus combines the contemplative dimension of cinema with the collective, participatory energy of the dance floor.
The first edition of Live Cinema Festival took place in 2014 at the Teatro Quarticciolo, selected as part of the Estate Romana projects funded by the Municipality of Rome. Over the years, the festival has grown into an international meeting point, changing venues multiple times and visiting locations such as Palazzo Brancaccio and the Circolo degli Illuminati, a historic space in Rome's nightlife and cultural scene. The 2025 edition marked the twelfth year, confirming the continuity of a project that has successfully embedded itself into the city's creative fabric.
One of the most distinctive initiatives is Live Cinema Made in Italy, a section dedicated to Italian audiovisual artists. Through an open call, the artistic direction selects emerging performances to join the international program, offering new national talent a qualified showcase alongside established stars. Over the years, the festival has also collaborated with academic and scientific institutions, such as the international ICIAP conference dedicated to image analysis, exploring the frontiers of artificial intelligence and video generation.
Integrated into the rich cultural calendar of Rome and Lazio, Live Cinema Festival occupies a unique space: it is neither a traditional film festival nor a simple electronic music event, but a hybrid that brings the general public closer to contemporary digital languages. For enthusiasts of art, technology, and new forms of performance, as well as for visitors seeking a different side of Rome, the event represents a precious opportunity to discover the future of cinema and performance.
Following the twelfth edition in 2025, Live Cinema Festival is expected in Rome with a new chapter dedicated to live cinema, video mapping, and audiovisual performances. As a consolidated and recurring project curated by Flyer new media, the event is considered one of the most anticipated in the Italian digital scene.
Official dates and the detailed program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced. This page will be updated as soon as the organization publishes definitive information regarding the venue, schedule, and artists.
Recent editions have been held at the Circolo degli Illuminati and other venues in Rome. The specific location may vary from year to year: it is recommended to check the updated address on the official website before the event.
Rome is accessible by train via Termini and Tiburtina stations, by plane from Fiumicino and Ciampino airports, and by car via the Grande Raccordo Anulare (GRA). To reach the festival venues, the use of public transport (ATAC metro and buses) is recommended, given the difficulty of parking in the evening hours.
Admission is ticketed with daily passes and limited capacity: advance online purchase is highly recommended, as evenings often sell out quickly. Information and sales are available on the official website livecinemafestival.com.
