The premier fish festival on the Ionian seafront of Letojanni
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Letojanni Fish Festival is one of the most beloved gastronomic events on the Ionian coast of Messina. It takes place in the town center, in Piazza Corrado Cagli, just a few steps from the promenade and the beaches that have made this seaside resort in the province of Messina, Sicily, so famous. For a few summer evenings, the square fills with food stalls, the scent of fried fish, and lively communal tables, creating a convivial atmosphere that draws residents and tourists from the entire coastline between Taormina and Messina.
The heart of the event is, naturally, the fresh fish, cooked on the spot by Pro Loco volunteers and local operators. Specialties served include mixed fried "paranza" fish, traditional Sicilian maritime dishes, and recipes featuring the catch of the Ionian Sea. Admission to the festival is free, and you only pay for what you consume at the stalls, in the true spirit of a popular folk festival.
The gastronomic evenings are always accompanied by a rich program of live music on the square's stage. In the 2025 edition, for example, the band Ironikamente performed a journey through the hits of the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s, followed by a concert by Cecilia Gayle and a tribute to the band Pooh by the group Parsifal. Shows and entertainment keep the audience company until late at night, making the festival an event for all ages.
The Letojanni Fish Festival stands out for having obtained the "Quality Festival" (Sagra di Qualitร ) mark awarded by UNPLI, the National Union of Pro Loco of Italy. This is a recognition granted to a limited number of Italian events (and for years, it was the only one in Sicily among the eighteen certified), which rewards the promotion of typical local products, the historical significance of the event, and the bond with the community. The festival is organized by the Pro Loco of Letojanni together with the Municipality of Letojanni, in synergy with local entities.
Letojanni is a small town in the province of Messina overlooking the Ionian Sea, known for its beaches and proximity to Taormina. The festival celebrates the maritime identity of the village and represents one of the highlights of the local summer, capable of combining gastronomy, music, and social life in one of the town's most picturesque squares.
