About Fish Festival

Every summer, the Fish Festival transforms Piazza Corrado Cagli, in the heart of Letojanni, into a vast open-air restaurant overlooking the Ionian Sea. Freshly caught fish, crispy fried seafood, and local maritime delicacies are paired with live music and free entry. It is one of the few Sicilian events to be awarded the "Quality Festival" (Sagra di Qualitร ) seal by UNPLI, a recognition that celebrates tradition, authentic local products, and the deep bond with the local fishing community.

A seaside celebration in the heart of Letojanni

The Letojanni Fish Festival is one of the most beloved gastronomic events on the Ionian coast of Messina. It takes place in the town center, in Piazza Corrado Cagli, just a few steps from the promenade and the beaches that have made this seaside resort in the province of Messina, Sicily, so famous. For a few summer evenings, the square fills with food stalls, the scent of fried fish, and lively communal tables, creating a convivial atmosphere that draws residents and tourists from the entire coastline between Taormina and Messina.

Fish takes center stage

The heart of the event is, naturally, the fresh fish, cooked on the spot by Pro Loco volunteers and local operators. Specialties served include mixed fried "paranza" fish, traditional Sicilian maritime dishes, and recipes featuring the catch of the Ionian Sea. Admission to the festival is free, and you only pay for what you consume at the stalls, in the true spirit of a popular folk festival.

Music and entertainment

The gastronomic evenings are always accompanied by a rich program of live music on the square's stage. In the 2025 edition, for example, the band Ironikamente performed a journey through the hits of the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s, followed by a concert by Cecilia Gayle and a tribute to the band Pooh by the group Parsifal. Shows and entertainment keep the audience company until late at night, making the festival an event for all ages.

A "Quality Festival"

The Letojanni Fish Festival stands out for having obtained the "Quality Festival" (Sagra di Qualitร ) mark awarded by UNPLI, the National Union of Pro Loco of Italy. This is a recognition granted to a limited number of Italian events (and for years, it was the only one in Sicily among the eighteen certified), which rewards the promotion of typical local products, the historical significance of the event, and the bond with the community. The festival is organized by the Pro Loco of Letojanni together with the Municipality of Letojanni, in synergy with local entities.

Letojanni and its maritime tradition

Letojanni is a small town in the province of Messina overlooking the Ionian Sea, known for its beaches and proximity to Taormina. The festival celebrates the maritime identity of the village and represents one of the highlights of the local summer, capable of combining gastronomy, music, and social life in one of the town's most picturesque squares.

Fish Festival โ€” edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Letojanni Fish Festival is expected, as per tradition, during the summer in Piazza Corrado Cagli. As of June 21, 2026, the official dates and program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the organizers. In recent years, the event has taken place between late August and early September, featuring fresh fish cooked on the spot, free entry, and live music evenings.

The Letojanni Fish Festival is expected to return in the summer of 2026 in Piazza Corrado Cagli, in the heart of the Municipality of Letojanni (ME), Sicily. At the moment, the organizers, the Pro Loco and the Municipality of Letojanni, have not yet released the official dates or the detailed program. Information will be updated as soon as it becomes available: it is recommended to check the Pro Loco of Letojanni channels to learn about dates, musical guests, and fish specialties on the menu.
