Cultural and literary festival of the Fosciandora Library, in the Garfagnana region
In Fosciandora, a tiny village in the Garfagnana area of Lucca province, the Municipal Library becomes the cultural hub of the community for a few weeks with La Biblioteca si Racconta, a festival that weaves together book presentations, author meetings, and workshops. The events are held in the charming Sala Vladimiro Zucchi in the hamlet of Migliano and are all free to attend: a precious opportunity for a mountain community where reading and preserving local history remain vital pillars.
The common thread of the festival is storytelling in all its forms: from the fole (traditional tales) of Garfagnana oral history to research on the history and crafts of the past, and writing as a form of play and discovery. Alongside book presentations, the festival offers a creative writing workshop for adults and a session designed for children, fostering a love for books from an early age. In recent years, the festival has also dedicated space to celebrating local heritage, from the volume on Maestro Luigi Roni and the traveling opera festival "Il Serchio delle Muse" to the stories and flavors of the Garfagnana.
La Biblioteca si Racconta is promoted by the Municipality of Fosciandora and its Municipal Library, in collaboration with the Pro Loco and the publisher Tralerighe libri, with the support of the Tuscany Region and the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca. It is a prime example of how, even in a small village in the province of Lucca, culture can serve as a catalyst for connection and identity, giving a voice to local authors and the traditions of the Garfagnana.
The 2026 edition of the La Biblioteca si Racconta festival reaffirms the commitment of the Fosciandora Municipal Library to bringing books and the traditions of the Garfagnana to life. Three evenings in the Sala Vladimiro Zucchi in Migliano, ranging from oral storytelling to writing, for both adults and children, supported by the Tuscany Region and the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca, in collaboration with the Pro Loco and the publisher Tralerighe libri.
