The prose season of Montecarotto's charming 19th-century theatre, featuring comedy, civic theatre, and live music
In the historic centre of Montecarotto, a small hilltop village in the province of Ancona known as the "town of clockmakers and organ builders" and the land of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, the Municipal Theatre opens its curtains for its prose season, L'ora del Teatro. It is an intimate review, made up of a few carefully selected events, which brings national theatre names and shows to an authentic Italian village theatre.
The artistic direction is entrusted to Teatro Giovani Teatro Pirata, recognized by the Ministry of Culture as a Production Centre for Theatre for Children and Youth, in collaboration with the Municipality of Montecarotto and the Malati di Niente review. The season is supported by the Marche Spettacolo Consortium (CMS), the Ministry of Culture, and the Marche Region, confirming the initiative's deep roots in the broader theatrical system of the Marche region.
The programme, although limited in number, is deliberately diverse: it ranges from sit-down comedy and authorial cabaret to civic theatre dedicated to forgotten historical figures, from music theatre to theatre of integration born from workshop paths. It is a proposal that speaks to both the loyal local audience and spectators from neighbouring towns in the Vallesina area, and which enhances Montecarotto's cultural vocation.
Attending a performance of L'ora del Teatro is also an opportunity to experience the charm of Montecarotto's Municipal Theatre, which is intimate and welcoming, where the stalls and boxes create an atmosphere of closeness between actors and the audience that is hard to find in larger venues. An event that, season after season, renews the tradition of village theatre in the Marche region.
The L'ora del Teatro 2026 prose season brought four very different shows to the Municipal Theatre of Montecarotto (AN), from authorial comedy to civic theatre, from music theatre to theatre of integration. Curated by Teatro Giovani Teatro Pirata with the Municipality of Montecarotto and the Malati di Niente review, it confirmed the cultural vocation of the Verdicchio village. The review concluded on May 9 with "Open Mic", the result of an integration theatre workshop featuring eleven actors.
