Great Italian drama takes the stage in L'Aquila, presented by the Teatro Stabile d'Abruzzo
The L'Aquila Theatre Season is the premier event for drama in L'Aquila, the capital of the province and the Abruzzo region. It is curated by the Teatro Stabile d'Abruzzo (TSA), a regional theatre institution that has been bringing major names and iconic texts from the national and international stage to the city for decades.
The programme runs throughout the season, from November to April, featuring events that blend tradition with innovation: classic repertoire, new contemporary plays, and original productions by the TSA itself. Performances take place at the Ridotto del Teatro Comunale, the beating heart of the city's theatrical life.
The artistic direction is led by actor and director Giorgio Pasotti, who crafts a programme designed for a broad and discerning audience, alternating between comedy and drama, classic texts, and the voices of our time. Each season brings together beloved performers and high-quality productions, with a focus on promoting the Abruzzo capital as a cultural hub.
The L'Aquila Theatre Season holds value beyond its artistic programming: it represents a key piece of the cultural rebirth of a city marked by the 2009 earthquake. The work of the TSA is intertwined with the journey that led L'Aquila to become the Italian Capital of Culture 2026, a recognition that confirms the vitality of the city's cultural fabric and the role of theatre as a driver of community and identity.
The season can be enjoyed either through a full-season subscription or by purchasing tickets for individual shows, with discounted rates available for those under 26 and over 65. Tickets are sold online and at dedicated TSA points in L'Aquila, with the subscription campaign opening in early autumn.
The 2025/2026 L'Aquila Theatre Season, presented on 22 September 2025 at Palazzo Margherita, offered eleven productions at the Ridotto del Teatro Comunale in L'Aquila, under the artistic direction of Giorgio Pasotti. A symbolic edition, coinciding with the year of L'Aquila Italian Capital of Culture 2026, with five titles produced by the TSA itself.
The calendar alternated between great classics and contemporary voices: L'inferioritร mentale della donna with Veronica Pivetti (13-14 Nov), Invenzioni with Viola Graziosi (20-21 Nov), Misurare il salto delle rane (4-5 Dec), Art with Michele Riondino (21-23 Jan), Othello directed by and starring Giorgio Pasotti (5-6 Feb), Carnage (19-20 Feb), Goldoni's Gli innamorati with Claudio Casadio (3-5 Mar), A casa tutti bene, the theatrical directorial debut of Gabriele Muccino (26-27 Mar), Chekhov's Three Sisters (1-2 Apr), Ezra in gabbia with Mariano Rigillo (9-10 Apr), and Pirandello's Non si sa come with Franco Branciaroli (16-17 Apr).
Full-season subscriptions were priced at 200 and 180 euros (full price) and 160 and 140 euros (reduced), while individual tickets ranged from 23 and 21 euros (full price) to 17 and 15 euros (reduced), with discounts for under 26s and over 65s.
