The ruzzola, a traditional game
The ruzzola is one of the oldest traditional games in central Italy: it consists of throwing a wooden wheel (originally a wheel of aged cheese) wrapped with a rope, making it roll as far as possible. The rope, as it unwinds, imparts rotation. Practiced for centuries along the dirt roads of the Umbrian, Marche, and Lazio countryside, it is now protected as a recognized traditional sport.

The city of Gualdo Tadino, in the province of Perugia, hosts the Individual Italian Ruzzola Championship, included in the rich calendar of the 'Estate Gualdese' (Gualdo Summer).
