The Italian round of the FIA Baja World Cup on the riverbeds of Friuli
The "baja" are speed and endurance races run off-road, on long selective courses traced in natural terrain. The Italian Baja is the Italian round of this international circuit and chooses the vast riverbeds of the Meduna, Cosa, and Tagliamento rivers as its theatre, the wide gravel beds typical of the Pordenone plain, ideal for fast and spectacular stages. Organized by the Fuoristrada Club 4x4 Pordenone, the event has its operational base at Pordenone Fiere.
The competition is valid simultaneously for the FIA Baja World Cup, the FIA Baja European Cup, and a round of the Italian Cross Country Championship ACI Sport: a triple title that attracts crews and car manufacturers from different continents. The selective stages wind for over 250 kilometers in total along the riverbeds, with repeated sections that test drivers and vehicles.
The event is not just about the race tracks: the ceremonial start in the center of Pordenone, the shakedown, and the paddock at Pordenone Fiere bring the glamour of motorsport to the city, with the public in close contact with cars, motorcycles, and crews. The race enjoys extensive television coverage (ACI Sport TV, RAI Sport) and a strong presence on social media channels.
Roaring engines, dust rising from the riverbeds, cheering crowds along the routes: the Italian Baja is an unmissable event for rally and off-road enthusiasts, and an opportunity to discover the unique river landscape of western Friuli, especially with Pordenone set to be the Italian Capital of Culture in 2027.
The 2026 edition spans five days, including technical checks, ceremonial start, shakedown, and two main selective stages on the riverbeds. The operational base remains Pordenone Fiere, while the race is valid for the three international and national championships.
Live broadcast on ACI Sport TV (Sky channel 228), RAI Sport, and social channels.
How to get there: The Pordenone Fiere base can be reached by car from the city; the race routes are developed on the riverbeds in the province's municipalities.
Admission: Free access to spectator areas and the paddock; race entries are reserved for crews.
Accommodation: Hotels and B&Bs in and around Pordenone.
