Isola Pepe Verde — Birthday Party

Isola Pepe Verde is a shared garden founded in 2013 in the Isola neighbourhood (Municipality 9, City of Milan, Lombardy), a historic working-class district now undergoing transformation. It is a self-managed space, self-sufficient in water and energy, with trees, benches, vegetables and fruit grown in raised beds, an artistic workshop, and a children's area. The garden operates under a collaboration agreement with the Municipality of Milan - Municipality 9.

The Birthday Party

Every year, the Isola Pepe Verde community celebrates another year of the garden's life with a big party. The day is marked by activities for adults and children: tai chi, botany and gardening workshops, live music and swing dancing, poetry readings, shared cooking moments, culminating in the cake cutting and collective toast. A programme that blends well-being, culture, and conviviality.

Shared city care

The party is more than just an anniversary: it is the moment when the value of a space built and maintained from the ground up, thanks to the voluntary commitment of citizens, is made visible. In a neighbourhood marked by the major urban development of Porta Nuova, Isola Pepe Verde represents a local green space and a hub for social interaction, and its birthday party is its most heartfelt celebration.
