Edition 2025 — Interpretare l'Antico

The fifth edition of Interpretare l'Antico took place from September 21 to 28, 2025, at the Teatro della Nike in the Naxos Archaeological Park, with a programme dedicated to the female figures of myth. Directed by Gigi Spedale and promoted by the Rete Latitudini, it featured Aristophanes' "The Knights", "MEdusa", "IO - A Neverending Run", and concluded with the L'Ombra di Dioniso prize awarded to Saverio La Ruina for his play "Italianesi".

The 5th edition of Interpretare l'Antico took place from September 21 to 28, 2025, at the Teatro della Nike in Giardini-Naxos (Messina), featuring a thematic journey dedicated to the female figures of myth and "classics against the wind".

  • Sunday, September 21, 9:00 PMThe Knights by Aristophanes, directed by Cinzia Maccagnano, produced by Bottega del Pane Teatro: a surreal and grotesque adaptation of the comedy, with a sharp critique of political demagoguery.
  • Wednesday, September 24, 8:30 PMMEdusa - Monster · Mother · Mystery, directed by Filippa Ilardo and Dario La Ferla (Compagnia dell'Arpa), music by Davide Campisi: a reinterpretation of the Medusa myth as a collective wound and the voice of punished women.
  • Thursday, September 25, 8:30 PMIO - A Neverending Run, text by Costanza DiQuattro, with Alessandra Salamida, directed by Cinzia Maccagnano, music by Mario Incudine: the myth of Io through metamorphosis, loneliness, and the search for freedom.
  • Sunday, September 28, 7:00 PM — Presentation of the L'Ombra di Dioniso prize to Saverio La Ruina and performance of Italianesi (Scena Verticale), about the tragedy of Italians imprisoned in Albania after World War II.

The festival was supported by the Municipality of Giardini-Naxos and benefited from the collaboration of ERSU Messina, the DAMS/COSPECS course of the University of Messina, the Naxos Archaeological Park, and the NaxosLegge festival.
