The flower carpets for the Corpus Domini procession
The Infiorata del Corpus Domini is one of the most characteristic traditions of Oratino, a village in the province of Campobasso included among the most beautiful villages in Italy. On the occasion of the Corpus Domini solemnity, the inhabitants of the town create floral carpets made of petals, leaves, and natural materials along the streets of the historic centre, bringing to life images and symbols linked to the Christian faith.
In recent years, the creation of the carpets has been moved to the Saturday before Corpus Domini, so that residents and visitors can admire the compositions in their entirety before the procession on Sunday passes through them. It is a collective effort that involves entire families and associations of the village, from the design of the sketches to the collection of flowers, up to the nocturnal laying of the petals.
The atmosphere of the Infiorata is amplified by the natural setting of Oratino: the narrow alleys, the stone houses, and the medieval tower provide a backdrop for the colourful carpets, in a combination of ephemeral art and architectural heritage that attracts visitors from all over Molise.
For Corpus Domini 2026, Oratino renews the Infiorata tradition. According to the established practice in recent years, the floral carpets are created on the Saturday before the solemnity (June 6, 2026), so they can be admired before the procession on Sunday (June 7, 2026), which passes through the streets of the historic centre decorated with petals.
The detailed program will be announced by the Municipality of Oratino and the parish. The traditional structure includes:
