The Sanctuary of Madonna del Piano

The Sanctuary of Madonna delle Grazie, also known as Madonna del Piano, stands on a hill overlooking the inhabited center of Molise, the village in the province of Campobasso that bears the same name as the region. The building, perhaps founded on an ancient Samnite temple where an altar of peace was found, bears the date 1730 on its facade, placed by Baron Graziano Della Porta.

The Vigil Procession

The most evocative moment is the evening procession that precedes the fair: the statue of the Madonna delle Grazie is carried on foot from the village's Mother Church to the sanctuary, in a heartfelt journey in which the entire population of the village participates. It is a rite of devotion that links the small center to its most beloved sacred place.

The Ancient Fair of July 2nd

On July 2nd, along the road that passes in front of the chapel of Madonna delle Grazie, an ancient and well-established traditional fair is held, attracting the inhabitants of Molise and all the surrounding villages. Stalls, typical products, and moments of gathering make this day one of the most anticipated events of the village's summer, just a few days before the patronal feast of Sant'Onorato on July 5th.
