The re-enactment of the twelve victories of the coastline in the Historical Regatta of Venice
The Historical Regatta of the Caorline 1951-1971 is a re-enactment that takes place in Punta Sabbioni, in the San Felice Canal of Cavallino-Treporti, in the province of Venice. The event commemorates the period when the caorline boats from Lio Piccolo, Treporti, and Cavallino dominated the famous Historical Regatta of Venice.
Between 1951 and 1964, the northern lagoon islands achieved twelve successes out of fourteen editions of the caorline regatta: eight victories for Lio Piccolo, three for Treporti, and one for Cavallino. The first Historical Regatta of the Caorline took place on September 2, 1951, initiated by the then mayor of Venice, Giobatta Gianquinto, and was won by the red caorline boat from Cavallino after a contest decided by a daring maneuver under the Rialto Bridge.
The initiative is promoted by Remiera Cavallino, Canottieri Treporti, and the association Il Borgo di Lio Piccolo, with the patronage of the Municipality of Cavallino-Treporti. More than just a race, it is a moment to recall a glorious era, enhance the history and identity of the territory, and promote the sport of Venetian rowing.
The re-enactment, visible from the San Felice shore, offers a suggestive spectacle in the Venetian lagoon setting, featuring the caorline boats and the colors of traditional vessels.
The third edition of the Historical Regatta of the Caorline 1951-1971 will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at 10:30 AM, in the San Felice Canal at Punta Sabbioni in Cavallino-Treporti. The event, visible from the San Felice shore, commemorates the twelve victories achieved by boats from Lio Piccolo, Treporti, and Cavallino in the early editions of the Venice Historical Regatta.
The aim is to recall a periodโfrom 1951 to 1964โwhen the northern lagoon islands dominated the competition, securing twelve successes out of fourteen editions: eight for Lio Piccolo, three for Treporti, and one for Cavallino. The initiative is promoted by Remiera Cavallino, Canottieri Treporti, and the association Il Borgo di Lio Piccolo, with the patronage of the Municipality of Cavallino-Treporti.
