The historic mountain bike granfondo on the Balcony of the Marche
The Granfondo MTB 9 Fossi of Cingoli is one of the longest-running and most beloved mountain bike events in the Marche region. Founded in 1998, it attracts hundreds of enthusiasts every year to Cingoli, in the province of Macerata, the village nicknamed the Balcony of the Marche for its panoramic position at over 600 meters above sea level, offering views stretching to the Adriatic Sea. Organized by AVIS Bike Cingoli, the race combines the passion for two wheels with the values of solidarity linked to the blood donor association.
The name 9 Fossi (9 Ditches) comes from the numerous streams and valleys that carve through the Cingoli territory, creating a varied and technical course. The event offers various options suitable for all levels, from cycle tourists to the most trained competitors:
The routes traverse woods, trails, and unpaved roads in the surrounding municipalities, offering spectacular views of the Sibillini Mountains and the Macerata countryside.
The 9 Fossi is not just a race: it's a celebration that animates Cingoli for an entire weekend, with package collection, technical checks, awards ceremonies, and the typical camaraderie of the amateur mountain biking world. Included in important circuits such as the Tour3Regioni, the Rampitek Series, and the MTB Centro Sud Italia circuit, the event has been a reference point in the spring calendar for central Italian bikers for years. The Municipality of Cingoli and the entire Marche community welcome participants, promoting a territory that makes cycle tourism and outdoor sports one of its excellences.
The 28th edition of the Granfondo MTB 9 Fossi of Cingoli confirmed the success of one of the classic Marche mountain bike events. The big news for 2026 was the introduction, for the first time in the event's history, of a Gravel category with a course separate from the MTB one and two distance options. The program included, alongside the Classic competitive routes, also cycle-touring and E-Bike options, and the 9 Fossi Kids for the little ones. The event, organized by AVIS Bike Cingoli, was part of the Tour3Regioni circuit and attracted over 700 participants from all over Italy to Cingoli, in the heart of the Macerata province.
Routes: Classic Long MTB approx. 48 km (1,700 m D+), Classic Short MTB approx. 29 km (1,100 m D+), Hard E-Bike approx. 32 km (1,000 m D+), Short MTB/E-Bike approx. 22 km (700 m D+), Gravel Long 62 km and Gravel Short 46 km.
Cingoli can be reached by car from the SS77 Val di Chienti highway, exiting towards Tolentino or Macerata, or from the Adriatic coast (Civitanova Marche exit of the A14) by heading inland. The nearest train station is Macerata.
