The reading groups of the Civic Library of Brugherio
Ghirlande is the annual initiative of reading groups promoted by the Civic Library of Brugherio, in the province of Monza and Brianza. A widespread cultural project that, from January to June, brings together readers of all ages around books, transforming the library into a place for meeting and discussion.
The edition offers nine reading groups: seven meet on weekday evenings, one on Saturday mornings, and there is also Ghirland@zeta, dedicated to teenagers aged 14 to 18. The themes are deliberately diverse: the rediscovered feminism of Jane Austen, Turkish, Kurdish, and Armenian literatures, the classics of horror from Dracula to Lovecraft, English-language literature paired with music, the concept of home, education, personal identity, the theme of evil, and for the younger ones, the dystopian novel.
The meetings are held at Palazzo Ghirlanda Silva, the library's headquarters: evening groups on the third Wednesday of the month at 8:45 PM, the Saturday group at 10:15 AM, while Ghirland@zeta meets on the third Tuesday of the month from 5 PM to 7 PM. Participation is free and open to all: you can join at any time, even if groups have already started.
With Ghirlande, the Civic Library of Brugherio goes beyond lending books and establishes itself as a true cultural square for the city in the province of Monza and Brianza. Reading groups are an experience that combines the individual pleasure of reading with collective discussion, building community around books. The variety of themes — from classic to contemporary, from distant literatures to genre novels — is designed to attract readers of different ages, tastes, and sensitivities, while the Ghirland@zeta group cultivates the pleasure of reading among young people. A project that testifies to the vitality of the Brianza library network and its role in the cultural life of the territory.
