Digital art, nature, and electronic music in the Land of the Ravines

Germoglio Pagus is a widespread festival held in Laterza, in the heart of the Taranto province, Puglia. Conceived by the RRRoba APS association, the project weaves together digital art, natural landscapes, and electronic music to offer a fresh perspective on the Terra delle Gravine, the fascinating territory of limestone canyons surrounding the town. For two days, the village transforms into an open-air creative laboratory, featuring excursions, multimedia installations, and musical sets.
The conceptual heart of the festival is the creation of a 3D archive of the natural and cultural elements of the Apulian territory, realized in collaboration with visual artist Vasco Elia D'Ospina. Through the Data-Hunt initiative, participants become "data hunters": accompanied by professionals from Explovery Terra delle Gravine, they explore the Gravina di Laterza and capture images and videos using dedicated apps, contributing to a shared digital heritage. The collected materials are showcased the same evening in an immersive multimedia exhibition.
The Palazzo Marchesale and public spaces in Laterza host the multimedia installations and the DJ sets that close each evening. Visual projections interact in real-time with the music, creating a synesthetic experience where sound and image merge. The musical programming highlights the emerging electronic scene, with a particular focus on female artists and experimental languages.
The project began as an evolution of the Pagus festival, launched in 2022 as an electronic music review dedicated to showcasing the Terra delle Gravine. With the Germoglio Pagus format, the event has taken on a more intimate character rooted in the territory, shifting the focus toward observing the landscape and life in public spaces, which are transformed into shared artistic and digital content.
Located at the western edge of the Taranto province, bordering Basilicata and just a few kilometers from Matera, Laterza is famous for its imposing ravineโone of the largest in Europeโand its ancient pottery tradition. Germoglio Pagus connects this extraordinary natural and cultural heritage with contemporary digital art languages, offering visitors a unique look at the most authentic side of Puglia.
The 2026 edition of Germoglio Pagus in Laterza is expected to take place during the summer, as in previous editions held in August. At the moment, the RRRoba APS association has not yet published the official dates or the program. Information will be updated as soon as it becomes available on the festival's channels.
Laterza is located in the province of Taranto, in western Puglia, near the border with Basilicata. By car, it can be reached via the SS7 and provincial roads connecting Taranto, Ginosa, and Matera. The nearest train station is Castellaneta-Ginosa, on the Taranto-Bari line; from there, you can continue by car or local connections.
Admission to exhibitions and DJ sets is free. Excursions in the Gravina (Data-Hunt) have limited capacity and require mandatory booking (tel. +39 328 2113438).
Activities take place at the Palazzo Marchesale, in the Gravina di Laterza, and in public spaces throughout the town center.
