The historic spring festival that opens Marotta's tourist season
The Garagoi Festival is one of the most beloved and long-standing festivals on the Marche coast. It takes place in Marotta, the lively seaside district of the Municipality of Mondolfo, in the province of Pesaro and Urbino, and for generations has marked the opening of the summer tourist season. The event was born in 1948 thanks to the initiative of a group of fishermen from Marotta, who wanted to share the fruits of their labor with the town and its first visitors: the garagolo.
The garagolo is a small sea snail typical of the Adriatic, with a conical shape and a characteristic four-pointed crest, fished in the stretch of sea between Rimini and Ancona. Cooked according to the ancient recipe of Marotta tradition, stewed with a fragrant sauce, it is the symbol dish of the festival. The food stalls set up for the occasion offer, in addition to the unmissable garagoi stand, numerous other Adriatic fish specialties, prepared by local fishermen and restaurateurs, true masters of seafood cuisine.
The 2026 edition, the 77th, was spread over two weekends and five days of celebration, animating the heart of Marotta between Piazza dell'Unificazione, the pedestrian island of viale Carducci, and the parallel stretch of the seafront. Alongside the fish stalls, there was live music with folk orchestras, bands, and DJ sets, craft markets, games, and entertainment for the little ones, culminating in the motorcycle rally "Garagoi a tutto gas".
Organized by the Pro Loco Marotta with the patronage of the Municipality of Mondolfo and the involvement of local volunteers and associations, the Garagoi Festival is much more than just a gastronomic event: it is an event of identity that tells the deep connection of this seaside village with its sea. For those visiting the Marche in spring, it is the perfect opportunity to discover the authentic flavors of the Adriatic in a popular and welcoming atmosphere.
The 77th Garagoi Festival animated Marotta for five days spread over two weekends, from April 25 to 26 and from May 1 to 3, 2026. The heart of the festival remained, as tradition dictates, the gastronomic stand of garagoi, the typical Adriatic sea snails, alongside numerous other fish specialties. Each evening featured live music and entertainment, including folk orchestras, rock bands, and DJ sets, alongside craft markets along the pedestrian island and the "Garagoi a tutto gas" motorcycle rally. A particularly rich edition, organized by Pro Loco Marotta with the patronage of the Municipality of Mondolfo.
Throughout the event: food stalls with garagoi and fish specialties, craft markets, games, and entertainment for children between Piazza dell'Unificazione, viale Carducci, and the seafront.
