The extra virgin olive oil celebration that kicks off the Furnari summer in Piazza Marconi
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of the summer season, the small town of Furnari, in the Province of Messina, dedicates an entire evening to its most precious product: extra virgin olive oil. The Olive Oil Festival is one of those genuine village celebrations where gastronomy becomes the perfect excuse to gather in the square, share the flavors of the land, and toast to the beginning of summer. The event takes place in Piazza Marconi, the town's open-air living room, and attracts locals, vacationers, and curious passersby on the Tyrrhenian coast of Messina.
Olive growing has always been a pillar of Furnari's economy, alongside agriculture and fishing. The Messinese extra virgin olive oil, with its herbaceous scents and delicate notes of almond, is the true star of the evening. Tables are filled with warm, freshly baked bread to dip in the new oil, fragrant bruschetta, olives, and local cheeses, accompanied by local wine. It is a simple yet authentic opportunity to rediscover a signature product and support the small producers who craft it with care.
In addition to the tastings, the festival offers live musical entertainment: bands and artists enliven the square until late at night, creating the festive, shared atmosphere typical of Sicilian summers. The event is organized by the Associazione Azimut 360°, which manages the logistics, tastings, and performances, and is part of the rich calendar of summer events that the Municipality of Furnari offers every year between the historic center and the seaside hamlet of Tonnarella.
Overlooking the Gulf of Patti, between the sea of Tonnarella and olive-covered hills, Furnari is a village on the Tyrrhenian coast of the Province of Messina that experiences a lively summer season of festivals, shows, and cultural initiatives. The Olive Oil Festival represents one of the most cherished appointments for the community, capable of combining the promotion of local products with the pleasure of an evening in good company under the Sicilian sky.
The organizers have not yet announced the official date and program for the 2026 edition of the Furnari Olive Oil Festival. Based on previous editions, the event is expected to take place in July, in the evening, in Piazza Marconi, with the usual tastings of local extra virgin olive oil, warm bread, bruschetta, olives, and wine, accompanied by live musical entertainment provided by the Associazione Azimut 360°.
