The most anticipated concert of the band's year

The Frühjahrskonzert (spring concert) is the centerpiece of the season for the Musikkapelle Wiesen, the brass band of Prati di Vizze, the main village in the municipality of Val di Vizze/Pfitsch, located in the upper Isarco Valley (Wipptal), in the province of Bolzano. While the band primarily accompanies religious celebrations, processions, and village festivals throughout the year with about twenty appearances, the spring concert is when the musicians present themselves to the public in a purely concert setting, showcasing the most challenging repertoire prepared during the winter.

A band with nearly two centuries of history

The Musikkapelle Wiesen has been documented since at least 1840 and is deeply rooted in South Tyrolean musical tradition. As early as the 19th century, it accompanied local religious services and processions, and in 1871, it performed a serenade for Emperor Franz Joseph I at the Vipiteno station. Its activities were interrupted during the First World War but resumed in 1920, continuing even through the difficult years of the Fascist era. Today, the band consists of about forty-seven musicians, with a young average age, and has maintained cross-border friendships and twin-town partnerships for decades, particularly with the Bergkapelle of St. Ingbert in the Saarland.

Under the baton of Daniel Steixner

Since 2024, the artistic direction has been entrusted to Kapellmeister Daniel Steixner, who led the band of Trins, in Tyrol, for eleven years before taking on the role in Prati di Vizze. The spring concert is the occasion where his work with the musicians is unveiled to the public: a varied program that alternates original pieces for wind orchestra, marches, film scores, and entertainment music designed for audiences of all ages.

A community evening

The concert is traditionally held at the Haus der Dorfgemeinschaft in Prati di Vizze and represents much more than just a musical event: it is a gathering point for the entire community of the village and surrounding hamlets, who fill the hall to applaud their local musicians. Admission is free, and the evening often concludes in a convivial atmosphere, in keeping with the best traditions of the villages in the Val di Vizze and the South Tyrolean Wipptal.
