The great fair of the Basilicata PGI Strawberry in Policoro
Basilicata is the leading Italian region for strawberry production, with over a thousand hectares cultivated along the Ionian coast and a yield exceeding five hundred thousand quintals per year. In October 2025, the Fragola della Basilicata received the prestigious PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) recognition, the culmination of a sector worth over one hundred and fifty million euros. It is to this excellence that Policoro dedicates Fragola Expo Basilicata, the great fair that transforms the Ionian city into a showcase for the best of Lucanian agriculture.
The event occupies the heart of Policoro, spreading over approximately twenty thousand square meters between Piazza Segni and Piazza Aldo Moro, with about a hundred exhibitors. Alongside the stands of producers and local companies, the program alternates tastings, technical conferences on the future of the sector, comedy shows, live music, street artists, and entertainment for all ages, from Miss Fragola Expo to evenings with comedians. A successful mix of agri-food promotion, business culture, and a town square festival.
Promoted with the support of the Municipality of Policoro, the Basilicata Region, and industry operators, Fragola Expo Basilicata is much more than a fair: it is the story of a territory, the Metapontino, which has made the strawberry a symbol of identity and development. An event that brings together producers, institutions, and visitors, offering the opportunity to taste, learn about, and celebrate a unique product in its kind, in the land that made it famous.
The second edition of Fragola Expo Basilicata enlivens Policoro on the weekend of April 25 and 26, 2026. The fair spans approximately twenty thousand square meters between Piazza Segni and Piazza Aldo Moro, with about a hundred exhibitors.
