About FLIPT Festival

FLIPT – Intercultural Laboratory Festival of Theatre Practices is the international theatre event organized every June by Teatro Potlach in Fara in Sabina, in the province of Rieti. For over twenty years, it has brought together companies, directors, and artists from all over the world in this Sabine village for eleven days of performances, masterclasses, and workshops led by Pino Di Buduo in collaboration with Eugenio Barba's I.S.T.A. The 2026 edition, the twenty-sixth, celebrated the company's fiftieth anniversary, culminating in the immersive urban performance «Città Invisibili» in the historic centre.

The FLIPT Festival in Fara in Sabina

The FLIPT – Intercultural Laboratory Festival of Theatre Practices is one of the most original theatrical experiences in the Lazio region. Conceived and curated by Teatro Potlach, it takes place every June in the village of Fara in Sabina, in the province of Rieti, transforming its medieval squares and alleys into a massive open-air laboratory. It is not merely a series of performances, but a meeting point for artists, scholars, and enthusiasts who share the daily life of theatre for eleven days: physical and vocal training, rehearsals, seminars, and collective creations.

Direction and I.S.T.A.

The festival is directed by Pino Di Buduo, who founded Teatro Potlach together with Daniela Regnoli in 1976, and is produced in collaboration with the I.S.T.A. – International School of Theatre Anthropology directed by Eugenio Barba. This partnership makes Fara in Sabina a reference point for international theatre research, where renowned masters and young students work side by side.

The 2026 edition and the 50th anniversary of Teatro Potlach

The twenty-sixth edition, from June 11 to 21, 2026, held special significance: it coincided with the fiftieth anniversary of Teatro Potlach, which was born right here in Fara in Sabina in 1976. The programme alternated masterclasses and workshops during the day with international performances in the evening, featuring companies such as Odin Teatret and artists from numerous countries.

«Città Invisibili» takes over the village

The highlight of FLIPT is the immersive urban performance «Città Invisibili», a site-specific project conceived by Pino Di Buduo and inspired by the work of Italo Calvino. On the evenings of June 20 and 21, the historic centre of Fara in Sabina transforms into one large stage: monumental video projections on building facades, light installations, music, dance, and actors' performances accompany the audience, who are free to walk, stop, and build their own path through the village streets.

An international festival in the heart of Sabina

FLIPT brings artists from every continent to Fara in Sabina and confirms Teatro Potlach's commitment to making this small Sabine town a crossroads of cultures. The initiative is supported by the Lazio Region and the Fondazione Varrone, with the patronage of the Province of Rieti and the Municipality of Fara in Sabina, set in a landscape of great charm, just a few kilometres from the famous Abbey of Farfa.
