Five days of Renaissance splendor in the walled village of Filetto
Every year, during the week of Ferragosto, the small walled village of Filetto, a hamlet of Villafranca in Lunigiana (province of Massa-Carrara, Tuscany), transforms into an open-air Renaissance stage. The walls, towers, narrow streets, and squares are adorned with banners and illuminated by torches: for five days, time seems to slip back five centuries as Filetto Renaissance welcomes thousands of visitors on a journey through history, spectacle, and tradition.
The event was born from the legacy of the historic Filetto Medieval Market, renewing it with a broader scope dedicated to the Renaissance and the era of the passage of Charles VIII of France through Lunigiana during his campaign toward Naples. The central theme focuses on daily life, arts, and crafts of the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance, brought to life by re-enactors, artisans, and performers.
The program is rich and spread throughout the village, between the church square, the well square, and the Via del Borghetto. Typical features of the re-enactment include:
From 2025, the organization is entrusted to the Senza Tempo APS Association of Sarzana, presided over by Luca Maria Mucedola, winner of the Villafranca in Lunigiana municipality tender for the 2025-2027 period.
