The patronal feast and the Barroccini Race in the hamlet of Ramazzano
The Festival of the Patron Saints of Ramazzano (hamlet of Ramazzano-Le Pulci, municipality of Perugia) is one of the most cherished popular festivals in the Perugian countryside. The community celebrates its three patron saints: Saint Thomas the Apostle, Saint Anthony Abbot, and Saint Bernardino of Siena, each associated with a traditional color.
The heart of the event is the Corsa dei Barroccini, a traditional competition held on the last Sunday of May since 1967. Each saint has their own barroccino, a cart decorated in the corresponding color and topped with the image of the patron. Teams of barrocciai—about twenty-five for each saint, organized in alternating formations—compete along the route from the Church of San Bernardino to the Church of San Tommaso Apostolo, with intermediate stops. A children's barroccini race usually precedes the adult one.
Alongside the race, the festival offers stalls with traditional Umbrian dishes such as umbricelli and tagliata, as well as evenings of music and DJ sets. An event that combines devotion, community identity, and conviviality, ideal for discovering the most authentic dimension of the hamlets around Perugia.
The 2026 edition of the Festival of the Patron Saints of Ramazzano (the 59th) is held from May 22 to 31, 2026, as confirmed by the calendar of popular festivals and fairs of the Municipality of Perugia. The festival celebrates the three patrons of the hamlet with the Corsa dei Barroccini, Umbrian gastronomy stalls (umbricelli, tagliata), and evenings of music and DJ sets.
As tradition dictates, the children's barroccini race precedes the adult one, scheduled for the last Sunday of the month.
The detailed schedule will be published by the organizing committee in the weeks preceding the event.
Ramazzano-Le Pulci is a hamlet northeast of Perugia, reachable by car in a few minutes from the provincial capital along the road towards Bosco and the E45. Driving is recommended.
The festival takes place in the second half of May, with the adult Corsa dei Barroccini traditionally held on the last Sunday of the month. Food stalls and musical evenings. Free admission.
