About Festival of the Patron Saints

In May, the hamlet of Ramazzano, on the outskirts of Perugia, celebrates its three patron saints with a popular festival that combines tradition, gastronomy, and entertainment. The most anticipated moment is the Corsa dei Barroccini (Race of the Little Carts), an ancient competition that since 1967 has seen teams compete with decorated carts dedicated to Saint Thomas the Apostle, Saint Anthony Abbot, and Saint Bernardino of Siena, amidst Umbrian dishes, music, and DJ sets.

A Patronal Feast with a Long Tradition

The Festival of the Patron Saints of Ramazzano (hamlet of Ramazzano-Le Pulci, municipality of Perugia) is one of the most cherished popular festivals in the Perugian countryside. The community celebrates its three patron saints: Saint Thomas the Apostle, Saint Anthony Abbot, and Saint Bernardino of Siena, each associated with a traditional color.

The Corsa dei Barroccini (Race of the Little Carts)

The heart of the event is the Corsa dei Barroccini, a traditional competition held on the last Sunday of May since 1967. Each saint has their own barroccino, a cart decorated in the corresponding color and topped with the image of the patron. Teams of barrocciai—about twenty-five for each saint, organized in alternating formations—compete along the route from the Church of San Bernardino to the Church of San Tommaso Apostolo, with intermediate stops. A children's barroccini race usually precedes the adult one.

Gastronomy and Entertainment

Alongside the race, the festival offers stalls with traditional Umbrian dishes such as umbricelli and tagliata, as well as evenings of music and DJ sets. An event that combines devotion, community identity, and conviviality, ideal for discovering the most authentic dimension of the hamlets around Perugia.

Festival of the Patron Saints — edition 2026

The 59th edition of the Festival of the Patron Saints takes place in Ramazzano from May 22 to 31, 2026. The patronal feast celebrates Saint Thomas the Apostle, Saint Anthony Abbot, and Saint Bernardino of Siena, with the traditional Corsa dei Barroccini, Umbrian food stalls, and musical evenings. The event is on the calendar of popular festivals of the Municipality of Perugia.

The 2026 edition of the Festival of the Patron Saints of Ramazzano (the 59th) is held from May 22 to 31, 2026, as confirmed by the calendar of popular festivals and fairs of the Municipality of Perugia.
