The blessed breads of San Biagio in the tradition of Sepino
In Sepino, a village in the Matese region of the province of Campobasso, San Biagio is celebrated on February 3rd with the traditional Festival of the Panicelle. The panicelle are small blessed breads that are distributed to the faithful and visitors as a sign of protection, according to a devotional custom that links the saint to health, particularly the throat.
The festival combines the religious and convivial dimensions: alongside the blessing and distribution of the panicelle, stands of local products are set up, offering an opportunity to discover the gastronomy of the Molise Matese. It is a simple event but deeply rooted in the village's culture, which each year brings the community together around an ancient tradition.
The 2026 Festival of the Panicelle takes place on February 3rd, the feast day of San Biagio, in Sepino. The day includes the blessing and distribution of the panicelle, the traditional local breads, with stands of local products in the center of the village.
