Saint Roch, Patron of Bianzano

The Festival of Saint Roch is the patronal feast of Bianzano, a small village in Val Cavallina located at 600 meters altitude, in the Province of Bergamo, overlooking Lake Endine. Saint Roch is the patron saint of the village, and an ancient country church dedicated to him holds the devotion of the community. The liturgical feast day falls on August 16th.

Procession of the Wooden Statue

The most heartfelt moment of the festival is the procession that, on the patron saint's day, winds through the village streets carrying the wooden statue of Saint Roch. It is an ancient rite, capable of gathering the inhabitants and the numerous summer visitors who frequent the village, in an atmosphere of devotion and tradition that is renewed from generation to generation.

Tradition and History of the Village

In the past, on the occasion of the festival of Saint Roch, an important fair was also held in Bianzano, a sign of how central the event was to the life of the village. Even today, the patronal feast remains the most important event of the Bianzano summer, an opportunity to rediscover the roots of a medieval village that preserves, in addition to the devotion to Saint Roch, a significant historical heritage, starting with its castle.
