The patronal festival of Baranello, between faith, fair, and music
Every year, at the beginning of May, Baranello โ a village in the Matese mountains in the province of Campobasso, in the heart of Molise โ celebrates Saint Michael the Archangel, its patron saint. It is one of the first major patronal festivals in the region and ideally marks the opening of the Molise event season.
The festival combines religious, civil, and popular dimensions. It begins with the fair-market that invades the town's streets from the early morning hours, continues with solemn Eucharistic celebrations in the Mother Church, and culminates in the grand procession with the effigy of the saint, accompanied by fireworks.
The festive heart moves to Piazza Santa Maria, where the Concert Band, musical evenings open to local talents, and major live concerts alternate. Between faith, community, and entertainment, the Festival of Saint Michael tells the identity of Baranello and the pride of a town that, around its patron saint, rediscovers its voice every year.
The Festival of Saint Michael the Archangel 2026 animated Baranello for three days, confirming its role as the symbolic opening of the event season in Molise. Between solemn celebrations, fair-market, procession, and major concerts, the town celebrated its patron saint with the usual participation.
Baranello can be reached by car from Campobasso (about 15 km) along the SS17. The nearest train station is in Campobasso, the regional capital.
