The Festival Contaminazioni Liriche is the summer opera season in Savona, produced by the Teatro dell'Opera Giocosa, one of Liguria's historic opera institutions. The venue is the spectacular Priamar Fortress, which, with its walls overlooking the sea, offers a unique setting for the great operas of the repertoire.
Verdi, Puccini, and the Great Titles
The programme features the most beloved masterpieces of Italian melodrama: from Il Trovatore to Madama Butterfly, from Nabucco to Rigoletto, with carefully curated productions and the participation of renowned conductors and performers. The festival's heart beats during the summer months at the Priamar Fortress, but it ideally continues in the autumn with the opera season at the Teatro Chiabrera. Contaminazioni Liriche — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Festival Contaminazioni Liriche celebrates the twentieth anniversary of the festival. The opening, on June 27th at the Priamar Fortress, features Verdi's Il Trovatore (a co-production of five traditional theatres). This is followed by Madama Butterfly (July 10th and 12th, conducted by Giampaolo Bisanti) and Verdi's Nabucco. In the autumn, the season continues with Rigoletto at the Teatro Chiabrera. Produced by the Teatro dell'Opera Giocosa of Savona.
