Inveruno celebrates its patron saint
Inveruno, in the province of Milan, has Saint Teresa of Ávila as its patron saint, the famous mystic and Doctor of the Church whose liturgical feast day is on October 15th. The patronal festival is one of the most important events in the town's calendar, capable of uniting the religious dimension with the community and opening the season of Inveruno's autumn festivals and traditions.
The programme, organised by the Parish of San Martino, begins on October 15th, the day of the saint's liturgical feast. The day includes the morning Mass, Eucharistic adoration, confessions, and in the evening, a penitential service. The climax is reached the following Sunday, with the solemn Mass in honour of the patron saint and the procession with the statue of Saint Teresa through the town's streets, a moment of great popular participation.
The procession, with the saint's statue carried among the faithful, is the most visible sign of Inveruno's religious identity. The entire community gathers around the celebrations, in an intertwining of devotion and tradition that is renewed year after year. The patronal festival precedes by a few weeks the town's other major event, the Antica Fiera di San Martino, dedicated to the parish's patron.
For Inveruno, the festival of Saint Teresa of Ávila represents an identity event, rooted in the religious history of the town in Alto Milanese. Celebrating the patron saint means renewing the community's bond with its spiritual roots, in a festival that combines the solemnity of the celebrations with the warm participation of the faithful.
