The patronal festival of Cerro al Volturno
On August 5th and 6th, Cerro al Volturno, in the province of Isernia, celebrates its patronal festival in honor of Sant'Emidio and Madonna Addolorata. The village, one of the most picturesque in Molise, is dominated by the scenic Angevin castle (Pandone Castle), which stands on a rocky spur in the upper Volturno valley.
Triduum, torchlight procession, and procession
The religious celebrations begin with the triduum in honor of Sant'Emidio (from August 2nd to 4th) at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul, accompanied by a workshop dedicated to the saint at the Nicola Spina Pastoral Center. On the evening of August 4th, the evocative torchlight procession takes place through the hamlets of the village. Sant'Emidio, born in 273 and ordained a priest by Saint Materno, is venerated as a protector against earthquakes.
Music and entertainment
The two central days combine devotion with popular celebration: August 5th is dedicated to the dance orchestra with ballroom and Latin-American music, while August 6th features the grand evening concert. A tried-and-tested formula that draws residents and emigrants to the village in the heart of the Molise summer, at the foot of Cerro al Volturno castle.
Sant'Emidio — edition 2026
The Patronal Festival of Sant'Emidio and Madonna Addolorata returns to Cerro al Volturno on August 5th and 6th, 2026. The devotional triduum (August 2nd-4th) at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul precedes the two main days, with the torchlight procession through the hamlets on the evening of the 4th, the dance orchestra on the 5th, and the evening concert on the 6th, at the foot of the Angevin castle.

The patronal festival program is as follows:
- August 2-4 — Triduum in honor of Sant'Emidio at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul; workshop dedicated to the saint at the Nicola Spina Pastoral Center.
- August 4 (evening) — Torchlight procession through the village hamlets.
- August 5 — Procession and evening with a dance orchestra (ballroom and Latin-American music).
- August 6 — Evening concert.

How to get there
Cerro al Volturno (IS) is reachable by car from the Isernia and upper Volturno area. The celebrations take place at the Church of Saints Peter and Paul and in the hamlets of the village.
