On December 7th, Sormano celebrates its patron saint with faith, community, and music
The Patronal Festival of Saint Ambrose is celebrated in Sormano, a municipality on the plateau of the Larian Triangle in the province of Como, on the liturgical feast day of the saint, December 7th. The parish of Saint Ambrose has been documented for centuries, and the parish church is the heart of the celebration.
The festival combines religious, civil, and community dimensions. The central moment is the solemn mass in the parish church; in documented editions, the day has also included a moment of prayer and blessing at the chapel dedicated to Saint Ambrose at a higher altitude, as well as cultural events such as a book presentation and a choral concert. The festival is an important occasion for the village inhabitants, especially in a small mountain village where the parish community retains a central role.
Sormano is known to cycling enthusiasts for the legendary Muro di Sormano, but its calendar is also marked by traditional anniversaries. The festival of Saint Ambrose, which falls during Advent, accompanies the start of winter and keeps alive the identity of this corner of the province of Como.
The Festival of Saint Ambrose 2026 takes place on Monday, December 7th, the liturgical feast day of the patron saint, in the parish church of Sormano (CO). As every year, the heart of the celebration is the solemn mass.
Building on documented past editions, the day may also include a moment of prayer at the chapel of Saint Ambrose and cultural events. The final program will be announced by the parish.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced by the parish closer to the festival date. The traditional structure, documented in past editions, includes:
