Ten days of celebration in Piazza Roma for the patron saint, with fireworks over the Adda
The Patronal Celebrations of Saint Alexander the Martyr celebrate the patron saint of Fara Gera d'Adda, a municipality in the province of Bergamo overlooking the Adda river. The festival, held in late August, transforms Piazza Roma into the pulsating heart of the community for about ten days, blending religious and popular dimensions.
The program combines moments of devotion and celebration: the solemn mass and the procession in honor of Saint Alexander, gastronomic evenings with dancing, the Coppa Gonfalone cycling race, and the spectacular fireworks over the Adda, which attract a large crowd to the riverbanks each year. The festival is organized by the Sant'Alessandro Committee, with the patronage of the Municipality.
Saint Alexander is also the patron saint of the city of Bergamo, and his feast is celebrated in many municipalities in the province. In Fara Gera d'Adda, the celebrations represent the highlight of the summer, a time when the entire community comes together around its traditions. Between the sacred and the profane, the festival of Saint Alexander is a cornerstone of the identity of this municipality in the Bassa bergamasca region, on the banks of the Adda.
The Patronal Celebrations of Saint Alexander the Martyr will return to Fara Gera d'Adda in 2026, in Piazza Roma, for about ten days at the end of August.
As per tradition, the program—curated by the Sant'Alessandro Committee with the patronage of the Municipality—includes the solemn mass and procession in honor of the patron saint, gastronomic evenings with dancing, the Coppa Gonfalone cycling race, and fireworks over the Adda. The precise dates and full schedule will be published on the Municipality's and Committee's channels closer to the festival.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, with dates and times, will be published by the Sant'Alessandro Committee and the Municipality of Fara Gera d'Adda closer to the festival. The celebrations typically include:
