Curno celebrates the Assumption

The Municipality of Curno, a populous centre on the urban fringe of Bergamo, celebrates its patron saint, Santa Maria Assunta (Saint Mary of the Assumption), around the August 15th holiday. Among the most cherished moments of the summer festivities is the brass band concert in Piazza Papa Giovanni XXIII, organised by the municipal administration.

The band in the square

The protagonist of the evening is the Corpo Musicale di Almenno San Salvatore (Almenno San Salvatore Musical Corps), a local brass band from the Bergamo area, which performs in the square at 9:00 PM. It is a free-admission concert, designed to bring residents and families together for an evening of outdoor music. In case of bad weather, the performance will be moved to the De André Auditorium on via IV Novembre.

A Ferragosto tradition

The concert is part of the celebrations dedicated to the Assumption, a mid-summer feast deeply felt in the towns of the Province of Bergamo. In Curno, the event thus becomes an opportunity to gather in the square, on one of the few evenings when the town, often seen as a place of transit along the main roads to Bergamo, rediscovers its community dimension.
