The secondary patron saint that Isernia celebrates on June 6th
In Isernia, the capital of Molise, Saint Barbara is venerated as the city's secondary patron saint. Her feast day does not fall on December 4th, the date in the liturgical calendar, but on June 6th: a peculiarity rooted in an ancient local tradition linked to the earthquakes of 1688 and 1882, events that profoundly marked the Pentro community and strengthened their devotion to the saint, traditionally invoked as a protector against sudden dangers.
The celebrations are preceded by a novena held in the Church of San Francesco, with the Holy Rosary and Holy Mass on the days leading up to the solemnity. It is a time of spiritual preparation deeply felt by the faithful of the historic center.
