On July 26th, the village of Castelpizzuto, in the province of Isernia, celebrates Saint Anne, the mother of the Virgin Mary and a figure deeply cherished in popular devotion. The festival falls in the heart of summer, when the small Matese municipality becomes populated again with the return of those who live far away.
A Summer and Community Celebration
The day includes a mass and a procession with the saint's effigy through the village streets. As with other religious festivals in the village, the Saint Anne celebration combines devotion with conviviality, in a community where the events of the liturgical calendar mark the most important moments of community life.
