The patron saint's festival in the heart of the Matese

The Festa di San Salvatore is the most cherished event of the year in Cantalupo nel Sannio, a village in the province of Isernia nestled on the slopes of the Matese mountains. It is celebrated on August 6th, in the height of summer, when the village fills with families and emigrants returning to their roots to gather around their patron saint.

Between devotion and tradition

The day begins in the morning with mass according to the ancient rite and continues with the solemn mass and the procession through the streets of the historic center, the highlight of popular devotion. In the evening, the festival changes its character and becomes convivial: the stalls are filled with the aroma of spit-roasted veal and pork, sausage sandwiches, and local specialties, while musical entertainment enlivens the square.

The fiery finale

Concluding the day, late in the evening, a fireworks display lights up the sky above the Matese. The festival is organized by a local committee in collaboration with the parish, the municipal administration, and local businesses, in a setting that tells the identity of a small Molise village faithful to its traditions.
