Over five centuries of tradition in Quinzano di Verona
The Festa di San Rocco is celebrated in Quinzano, a hilly hamlet in the northwestern part of Verona, at the foot of Monte Cavro. Its origins date back to the late 1400s, when the community entrusted itself to Saint Roch as a protector against the plague: an uninterrupted tradition that makes this festival one of the city's longest-running.
The heart of the festival is the solemn mass on August 16th, Saint Roch's day, in the church dedicated to him, with the blessing of the bread. On this occasion, the Premio San Rocco (Saint Roch Prize) is awarded, a historic recognition for associations and organizations involved in social work.
Every evening, from 7 PM, the 'Brao Cencio' kitchen offers traditional Veronese dishes: risotto al tastasal, bigoli with ragรน, polenta with pike, cured meat with polenta, and zero-kilometer meat grills. A journey into the authentic flavors of Quinzano and Veronese cuisine.
Alongside the religious and gastronomic aspects, the festival features concerts, dancing evenings with local artists and groups, and art exhibitions. It is an event deeply felt by the community of Quinzano and all of Verona, in Veneto, which renews the town's connection with its centuries-old history each year.
The 547th Festa di San Rocco is expected in mid-August 2026 in Quinzano di Verona, renewing a tradition uninterrupted since the late 15th century. The central moment will be, as tradition dictates, the solemn mass on August 16th in the church of San Rocco, with the blessing of the bread and the awarding of the 55th Premio San Rocco to an organization committed to social causes. Every evening from 7 PM, the 'Brao Cencio' kitchen will offer traditional Veronese dishes โ risotto al tastasal, bigoli with ragรน, polenta with pike, cured meat, and grills โ alongside concerts and cultural evenings. The detailed program will be announced by the San Rocco Committee in the weeks preceding the festival.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published by the San Rocco Committee in the weeks preceding the festival. Based on established tradition:
Quinzano is located northwest of Verona, on the hills overlooking the city. It can be reached by car and by city buses; the church of San Rocco is the focal point of the celebrations.
The festival takes place in mid-August, around Saint Roch's day (August 16th). The kitchen is open every evening from 7 PM.
Free admission; food and drinks are paid for at the 'Brao Cencio' stands.
