Maccheroni, grilled meat and pizzica at the end of summer
In Pietracatella, a village in the Fortore area of the province of Campobasso, the feast of San Giovanni Battista is celebrated at the end of August and is accompanied by the Sagra dei Maccheroni, one of the most beloved gastronomic events in the town.
The stars of the festival are the homemade maccheroni, seasoned according to tradition, along with sausage and grilled meat. The food stalls, set up in the town center, offer the authentic flavors of Molisan cuisine, to be enjoyed with friends on a warm late summer evening.
Accompanying the festival is popular music, with a lively evening of pizzica and taranta that gets the square dancing. Between food, music, and celebration, the feast of San Giovanni Battista cheerfully concludes Pietracatella's summer calendar, combining devotion, gastronomy, and popular tradition.
