Saint George the Martyr is the patron saint of Campobasso, the capital of Molise. His feast day, which falls on April 23rd, is one of the most keenly felt events in the city and spans several days, blending the religious dimension with the civil and popular one.
Faith and folklore
The heart of the festival is the solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by the Archbishop in the church of San Giorgio, followed by the procession that crosses the historic center with a stop under the balcony of the Town Hall. Around the rite, historical conferences, civic awards (such as the "Premio San Giorgio – Città di Campobasso") and moments of reflection on the link between the saint, the Church, and the territory unfold.
The city celebrating
"Finestre Armoniche" transform the center into a large stage with concerts and DJ sets, while the squares host urban treasure hunts, guided school trips to Castello Monforte, street food, markets, and cooking shows dedicated to Molise cuisine. Festa di San Giorgio — edition 2026
The Festa di San Giorgio 2026 animated Campobasso for four days, under the theme of the city on the move between faith and folklore. Among the special guests were chef Max Mariola, the star of the cooking shows on April 25th, and the concerts of "Finestre Armoniche" with Tony Esposito, the B.B. Orkestra, and Simona Boo. Confirmed were the historical conference at Palazzo San Giorgio, the extraordinary town council meeting for the "Premio San Giorgio – Città di Campobasso", and free public transport on the patron saint's day.
