Devotion to the Madonna della Neve in Sestolese Summer
On August 5th, throughout Italy, the Madonna della Neve is celebrated, an event that Christian tradition links to the miracle of the summer snowfall on the Esquiline Hill in Rome, which led to the founding of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. In Sesto Campano too, a municipality in the province of Isernia on the border between Molise and Campania, this devotion finds a place in the village's summer festival calendar.
The Festa della Madonna della Neve is included in the program of the Estate Sestolese (Sestolese Summer), the calendar of events that the Municipality of Sesto Campano offers every year from the end of June to September. Among concerts, food festivals (sagre), shows, and religious festivals, the August 5th commemoration retains a devotional character that brings the community together.
The celebrations in honor of the Madonna della Neve mark the heart of the Sestolese summer, in a village that alternates religious festivals and convivial moments throughout the season. It is a fixed event that is renewed every year, an integral part of the village's identity.
The 2026 edition of the Festa della Madonna della Neve takes place on August 5th in Sesto Campano. The event, part of the Estate Sestolese, includes religious celebrations in honor of the Madonna della Neve.
Sesto Campano is located in the province of Isernia, on the border with Campania, near the A1 motorway exit (San Vittore/Venafro).
