The patron saints of Pogliano Milanese
In Pogliano Milanese (Metropolitan City of Milan), the Festa del Paese coincides with the celebrations for the patron saints Saints Peter and Paul (June 29th), traditionally celebrated on the first Sunday of July. It is the most cherished event of the year for the community.
The tradition of the Boja
The most characteristic and original element of the festival is the exhibition of the "Boja" and the "Boietto": two wooden devil figures, whose origin dates back to a 16th-century carpenter. For centuries, these statues have been proudly displayed during the town's main festival, also giving rise to the characteristic "Boja" market, set up on June 29th and the following Sunday.
Faith and folklore
Alongside the folkloristic dimension, the festival retains its religious heart, with the procession and celebrations in honour of the patron saints. The historic centre comes alive with events, stalls, and community gatherings. The Festa del Paese takes place on the first Sunday of July in Pogliano, while in May the celebrations involve the hamlet of Bettolino.
Festa del Paese — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Festa del Paese will be held on the first Sunday of July (July 5th) and the following Monday. The heart of the event is the celebration of the patron saints Saints Peter and Paul, with the exhibition of the historic "Boja" and "Boietto" statues and the "Boja" market, also held on June 29th and the following Sunday. The detailed program will be published by the Municipality and the parish in the weeks preceding the event.
