The Feast of the Madonna del Carmine is the most anticipated event of the summer in Villa Scontrone, the lower hamlet of the municipality of Scontrone, a small mountain village in the Alto Sangro area of the province of L'Aquila, in Abruzzo. The Madonna del Carmine is the patron saint of Villa Scontrone, and her feast day on July 16th marks one of the most significant moments in the village's religious and community calendar.

The heart of the village: the church and the square

Life in Villa Scontrone revolves around the charming little square that opens up in front of the church of Santa Maria del Carmine: this is the focal point for the festival's rites and celebrations. Immersed in the nature of the Alto Sangro, on the borders of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, Scontrone is also known for its typical products — honey, cured meats, and cheeses — which are perfect for enjoying during the festive days.
