The summer feast of the Guasto hamlet
The Feast of Saint Mary of Mercy is one of the most cherished events in the Guasto hamlet of Castelpetroso, a municipality in the province of Isernia known for the Sanctuary of the Addolorata. The feast is traditionally celebrated on the second Sunday of August, in the heart of summer.
The celebrations combine religious rites in honour of Saint Mary of Mercy with the community aspect of a village feast, including a procession and moments of conviviality. During the same period, the hamlet also celebrates Saint Mary Magdalene, testifying to the rich popular devotion of this small Molise village.
Visiting Guasto means discovering an authentic corner of the hinterland of the province of Isernia, a stone's throw from the Sanctuary of the Addolorata, in a hilly landscape that preserves ancient religious traditions.
The Feast of Saint Mary of Mercy will return to the Guasto hamlet of Castelpetroso on the second Sunday of August 2026. The occasion includes religious rites in honour of the Madonna, the procession, and the typical moments of conviviality of a village feast.
