Three nights of folk music, Cilento flavors, and traditions in the Alburni mountains
Fasanella Fest is the most anticipated event of the summer in Sant'Angelo a Fasanella, a small village of just under five hundred inhabitants perched at an altitude of 520 meters in the Alburni mountains, in the Province of Salerno, in the heart of Campania and the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park. For three consecutive evenings, the village comes alive: Piazza Ortale becomes the FasaArena, the alleys light up with scents and colors, and a village that lives in silence during the winter turns into the meeting point for the entire Alburni region.
The formula is simple and proven: free folk music concerts from Southern Italy, DJ sets that continue until late at night, a gastronomic area dedicated to local dishes, and activities designed for families and children. The festival is organized by the Municipality of Sant'Angelo a Fasanella together with the Pro Loco, local associations, and a large group of volunteers, as part of the Abitare l'estate summer program.
The artistic hallmark of Fasanella Fest is the folk music of Southern Italy—the sound of drums, tarantellas, and pizzica, reinterpreted with a contemporary twist. Every year, the FasaArena stage hosts bands representing the great schools of Southern tradition—from Gargano to Salento, from Campania to Lucania—alongside well-known names in Neapolitan and urban music. After the live performances, the party continues with the FasaBeat DJ sets, keeping the crowd dancing until dawn.
Over the years, the stage has welcomed artists such as Enzo Avitabile and the Bottari di Portico, Franco Ricciardi, the Salento-based Mascarimirì, I Cantori di Carpino, La Tarantula Garganica, and RittAntico: a lineup that manages to be popular without compromising on quality and research into its roots.
The FasaFood area is the other major attraction of the event. The stands usually open around 7:00 PM, offering mountain and traditional Cilento cuisine prepared by the local women and volunteers. Popular dishes include:
Complementing the village's gastronomic offerings are dedicated events in the preceding days, such as Caseus, focusing on local cheeses and dairy products with cheesemaking workshops, and Capo la Corte in festa, a district festival organized by the Pro Loco with traditional dishes and folk music.
Fasanella Fest is more than just an evening party. Alongside the concerts, there are:
Visitors arriving for the festival should not limit themselves to the square. Sant'Angelo a Fasanella guards some of the most evocative spots in the Alburni: the Cave of Saint Michael the Archangel, a Benedictine rock-hewn church with Gothic features and 14th-century frescoes; the Antece, the famous warrior figure carved into a boulder at Costa Palomba, dating back to the 5th-4th century BC; the Baronial Castle built on a rocky spur; and the church of Santa Maria Maggiore. Nearby, the National Park trails lead to sinkholes, chasms, and beech forests.
Fasanella Fest is both a village feast and a high-level music festival: free admission, affordable prices at the stands, and an audience that blends residents, emigrants returning for the summer, and visitors to Cilento. It is the best opportunity to understand what it means to consider the South a land "to be lived" rather than just visited.
From August 20 to 22, 2026, Sant'Angelo a Fasanella hosts the new edition of Fasanella Fest, the heart of the Abitare l'estate 2026 summer program presented by the Municipality, the Pro Loco, and local associations. Mayor Bruno Tierno summarized the spirit of the initiative in a formula: the South as a land "to be lived," not just to be visited.
The musical lineup focuses entirely on Southern folk tradition. It opens on Thursday, August 20, with I Cantori di Carpino, guardians of the song and tarantella of the Gargano; it continues on Friday, August 21, with La Tarantula Garganica, featuring pizzica and Southern rhythms; and closes on Saturday, August 22, with the most anticipated concert, that of Enzo Avitabile and the Bottari di Portico, with their drums, barrels, and scythes that have accompanied the rites of inland Campania for centuries. Every night, after the live shows, the party continues with DJ sets.
Alongside the stage, the gastronomic area remains central, with dishes from inland Cilento and the Podolica veal of the Alburni, as well as the play area for children. Fasanella Fest 2026 is part of a particularly rich August for the village, including Capo la Corte in festa (August 13), Tango tra gli Alburni (August 14), Caseus dedicated to cheeses (August 18), the Donato Michele Cappelli Memorial (August 23), and the National Day of the Sacred Sword of the Archangel (August 29).
Throughout the three days, the children's play area and excursion proposals to discover the Alburni territory remain active.
The heart of the event is Piazza Ortale in Sant'Angelo a Fasanella (84027, Province of Salerno), where the FasaArena is set up with the concert stage and the FasaFood area.
Access to concerts and activities is free. You only pay for food and drinks at the FasaFood stands, with affordable village-festival prices.
