About FAI Days Riccia

On the weekend of March 21-22, 2026, Riccia is the main venue for Molise in the Spring FAI Days, now in its XXXIV edition. Four thematic routes, guided by the Apprentice Cic erones from the local Scientific High School, lead to the discovery of the village: the Philosopher's Arch and Palazzo Cima, the Baroque Piazza Sedati, the Church of the SS. Annunziata with its harpsichords, the Ethnographic Storehouse, and the De Capua Castle, where Costanza di Chiaramonte rests.

Riccia, Molise's FAI Flagbearer

The Spring FAI Days are the major national event organized by the Italian Environment Fund (FAI), which each year opens art and nature sites to the public, many of which are normally closed. In 2026, for its XXXIV edition, Riccia (CB) has been chosen as the main venue for Molise, with the spotlight on its rich historic center in the Fortore region.

Four Itineraries Through the Village

The welcome point is Piazza Sedati, from which four independent thematic routes depart, accompanied by the Apprentice Cic erones from the "G. Galilei" Scientific High School:

  • Riccia: A Journey Through Art, Music, and Poetry — Philosopher's Arch (medieval gate), Church of Santa Maria Assunta, Largo Bottego, and Palazzo Cima, residence of composer and poet Michele Cima
  • Siste Hospes: Welcome Stranger — Piazza Sedati with its 1640 Baroque fountain and Latin welcome inscription, the Church of the Madonna del SS. Rosario, and the 19th-century Palazzo Reale
  • Riccia: Inside and Outside the Walls — the Church of the SS. Annunziata with its historic harpsichords, the "Porta del Casino", and the Ethnographic Storehouse with its collection of over a thousand objects
  • The Court of the De Capua Family and a Queen's Tears — 500 years of feudal rule, the De Capua Castle with its Aragonese keep, and the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, where Costanza di Chiaramonte, the only queen buried in Molise, rests

A Widespread Heritage

Each itinerary lasts about an hour, and you can choose one or more. Visits are supported by donations to the FAI Foundation and offer a unique opportunity to discover the historical and artistic layers of Riccia, from the Middle Ages to the Baroque period.
