A weekend to discover the hidden treasures of Castiglione delle Stiviere
The FAI Spring Days are one of the most beloved cultural events in Italy: for a weekend, the FAI - Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano opens the doors of palaces, churches, gardens, and historical sites that are normally closed or not easily accessible. In Castiglione delle Stiviere, a town in the province of Mantua, the initiative invites visitors to rediscover the heritage of a center that, between the Renaissance and the modern era, played a leading role in the Mantuan landscape.
Three main sites are open: the Castle of Castiglione, a fortification that for centuries was the defensive and political core of the city; the Church of San Sebastiano, linked to the local religious history and urban transformations of the center; and the Church of the Capuchins, a testament to the Franciscan presence in the area and the convent's role in the community. An itinerary that spans centuries of Castiglione's history.
Visitors are guided by FAI volunteers and the Apprentice Cic erones, students who, after a training course, accompany the public by recounting the historical and artistic events of the places. This is one of the most beautiful aspects of the FAI Days: the transmission of heritage entrusted to the younger generation, who become custodians and storytellers of their city's history.
The FAI Spring Days are an invitation to look at Castiglione delle Stiviere with new eyes, crossing thresholds that are usually closed and letting yourself be told the story of a land rich in memory. Participation is with a free contribution to support FAI's activities.
The 34th edition of the FAI Spring Days takes place on Saturday, March 21, and Sunday, March 22, 2026. In Castiglione delle Stiviere (MN), the openings concern three historical sites: the Castle of Castiglione, the Church of San Sebastiano, and the Church of the Capuchins. The visits, guided by FAI volunteers and Apprentice Cic erones, allow for an in-depth exploration of the historical and artistic events of a town that played a significant role in the Mantuan landscape between the Renaissance and the modern era.
Opening hours and access procedures are published on the official website www.giornatefai.it.
