Storytelling and itinerant theatre through the hamlets of Mombaroccio
Fabulous Tales is the storytelling and itinerant theatre review promoted by the Municipality of Mombaroccio, a small medieval village in the hinterland of the province of Pesaro and Urbino, part of the circuit of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy. The idea that gives the event its name is simple and fascinating: to bring stories, fairy tales, and theatre directly into the squares and most evocative places in the municipal area, transforming each evening into a small fantasy journey for adults and children alike.
What makes Fabulous Tales special is its widespread and itinerant nature: instead of concentrating in a single location, the review moves from week to week, touching the different souls of Mombaroccio. The 2026 events are held in the hamlets of Villagrande, in the heart of the Historic Village, and in Montegiano, an ancient castle documented since the 13th century. In this way, each community within the Municipality becomes, in turn, a stage for the event, enhancing corners and views that often remain out of the spotlight outside of festive occasions.
Fabulous Tales is a family-oriented review: the storytelling and theatre performances are primarily designed for children, but the language of fairy tales and imagination can also speak to adults. The evenings combine the pleasure of storytelling with that of spending time together outdoors, on early summer evenings, within the walls and squares of a village that has made culture and the valorization of traditions one of its distinctive features.
The initiative is part of Mombaroccio's vibrant summer cultural program, built year after year by the Municipality together with the Pro Loco (Tourist Board) and local associations. From lavender in bloom to Christmas in the village, to storytelling reviews like Fabulous Tales, the village in the Marche hills confirms its vocation to be a place where history and traditions are told with a contemporary, welcoming, and open perspective for visitors of all ages.
The Fabulous Tales 2026 review touches three locations in the Municipality of Mombaroccio on as many June evenings, according to the official calendar:
