The traditional Epiphany tombola in the Tarsogno Multipurpose Hall
The Epiphany Tombola, popularly called Befana's Tombola, is one of the most cherished events in the winter calendar of Tarsogno, a hamlet of the Municipality of Tornolo, in the upper valley of the Lubiana stream, in the Province of Parma. Organized by the Pro Loco Tarsogno, the event marks the conclusion of the Christmas festivities and accompanies the community on Epiphany day, when the Befana arrives to bring sweets and surprises.
Tombola has always been one of the most beloved games of Italian popular tradition, and in a small Apennine village like Tarsogno, it becomes a precious occasion for gathering. In the Multipurpose Hall of the village, adults and children sit around the game cards, follow the number draws, and eagerly await the 'ambo', 'terno', 'quaterna', 'cinquina', and the final 'tombola'. It's an afternoon of pure conviviality, where the game is above all a pretext for being together at the end of the holidays.
The 2026 edition will be held on Sunday, January 4th, starting at 4:30 PM at the Multipurpose Hall of Tarsogno. The event is part of the rich calendar of initiatives that the Pro Loco offers throughout the year, from summer outdoor activities to holiday season events.
Located at the foot of Monte Zuccone, near the Cento Croci pass connecting Emilia-Romagna to Liguria, Tarsogno is a locality in the Parma Apennines appreciated for its greenery, mountain air, and tranquility. The Pro Loco Tarsogno animates the village with events that promote local traditions and keep community life alive even in the coldest months, when snow covers the houses and the Multipurpose Hall becomes the warm heart of the village.
Befana's Tombola is designed to be accessible to everyone: children, parents, grandparents, and holidaymakers can participate together in a relaxed and festive atmosphere. It's the ideal opportunity for those spending their winter holidays in the Parma Apennines to immerse themselves in local customs and share a moment of joy before returning to everyday life.
