The international contest for emerging bands stops in the Capital
Emergenza Live Music is one of the longest-running and most widespread festival-contests in the world dedicated to emerging artists. Founded in the early nineties, it involves dozens of countries and, in Italy, visits about ten cities every year, including Rome, Milan, Florence, Bologna, Padua, Genoa, Turin, Naples, and Livorno. In the Municipality of Rome, the heart of the Lazio Region and the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, the event is structured into a long season of competition nights running from January to June.
The Roman home of the contest is the Traffic Live Club at Via Prenestina 738, a historic venue in the Casilino-Prenestino district known for its focus on live music and acoustics appreciated by underground groups. Here, the preliminary nights take place, where each competing project has a set of about 25 minutes on a sound system and backline provided by the organization. The city final is instead hosted in larger venues: in 2026 at the Orion Live Club, and in 2025 at the Largo Venue.
The winning project of the Roman leg gains access to the Italian Final, held at the Magazzini Generali in Milan: here, the best fourteen projects selected nationwide from about four hundred applications compete. The winner of the national final then represents Italy at the World Final of Emergenza, hosted in Germany at the Taubertal Festival in August. The circuit also provides winners with studio recording sessions, international distribution, and promotional campaigns in several European countries.
The Roman dates have the genuine flavor of a club: young audiences, friends and families following the groups, and genres alternating seamlessly within a single evening. It ranges from guitar rock to singer-songwriter styles, from indie to pop, and from electronic to more experimental contaminations. For those who love discovering music before it becomes famous, it is one of the most interesting opportunities of the Roman winter and spring; for bands, it is a real stage gym, with a professional sound system and a real audience in front.
Rome is one of the most crowded venues of the contest: the 2026 Roman leg alone saw 64 musical projects competing, a number that measures the vitality of the emerging scene in Lazio. Following the nights means experiencing, in just a few weeks, a very wide sample of what is moving in the garages, rehearsal rooms, and small studios of the city and its hinterland.
The Roman selections started in January 2026 and developed throughout the spring with close-knit competition nights at the Traffic Live Club, in the Prenestino district of the Municipality of Rome. Each date pitted multiple projects against each other, each with a short set evaluated by the audience in the hall.
The capital's leg involved a total of 64 musical projects, one of the largest pools in the Italian circuit. The final act was the Rome Final on Saturday, June 20, 2026, hosted at the Orion Live Club, a historic venue for live music on the outskirts of the Capital.
The first-place Roman act was admitted to the Italian Final on June 27, 2026 at the Magazzini Generali in Milan, where the fourteen best national projects selected from about four hundred applications faced off before a jury composed of INRI Metatron, Sony BMG, Thaurus Music, Krishna Music, Track One Music, and Emergenza Live. The national winner represents Italy at the World Final of the festival, scheduled for August in Germany at the Taubertal Festival.
The Traffic Live Club is located at Via Prenestina 738, in the eastern quadrant of Rome. By car, it can be reached from the Grande Raccordo Anulare by exiting towards Via Prenestina; by public transport, you can use the surface lines along the Prenestina or the Rome-Giardinetti railway, followed by a short walk or bus ride.
Admission to the preliminary nights is paid with a low-cost entry ticket, typical of live clubs; city finals are available for pre-sale on online ticketing platforms. Registered bands are under no obligation to sell tickets.
The nights start late and go on for a long time: it is advisable to arrive early to attend all the sets. The calendar of dates is published progressively from January on the circuit's official website.
