A week of art, music, and dialogue dedicated to women in Avezzano
DONNAin is a cultural festival that takes place every year in May in Avezzano, in the province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo. Conceived and organized by the Centro Giuridico del Cittadino, chaired by Augusto Di Bastiano, and supported by the Municipality of Avezzano, the event dedicates a full week to the female universe, explored through art, music, literature, and social debate.
Each edition opens with an art exhibition and unfolds into a dense schedule of daily events. The format is well-established: in the late afternoon, a short musical performance—often featuring young pianists and instrumentalists from local music schools—introduces the evening's meeting or debate. The program alternates between concerts, book presentations, round tables on social issues, and memorials dedicated to figures dear to the city.
One of the hallmarks of DONNAin is the central role reserved for young talent: students from local music schools and the Avezzano Art High School find a real stage at the festival. The event also addresses major issues related to the female condition—gender-based violence, social discrimination, and the role of women in history and the workplace—always with an eye toward the Marsica region and its traditions.
Supported by the Fondazione Carispaq and the Avezzano Pro Loco, DONNAin has grown year by year to become a cornerstone of the city's cultural life. The meetings, which are free to attend, are held primarily at the Pro Loco headquarters on Via Corradini, with events also taking place in other symbolic locations across Avezzano and the Marsica region. It is an opportunity to experience inland Abruzzo from an unusual perspective, where culture—as the 2026 theme suggests—is discovered "around the corner."
The seventh edition of DONNAin took place in Avezzano from May 9th to 16th, 2026, under the theme "Culture around the corner." The festival, promoted by the Centro Giuridico del Cittadino with the patronage of the Municipality of Avezzano, offered a week full of art, music, and reflection on women's issues, with the support of the Fondazione Carispaq and the Pro Loco.
The inauguration, on Saturday, May 9th, featured the exhibition "Presenze" by Antonella D'Angelo and a concert by the Di Marco-Tiburzi duo. The following days included debates on contemporary art, meetings on the value of local shops in the digital age, the round table "The infinite journey of women," the memorial dedicated to Giuseppe Cristofano on "Why tell fairy tales," a discussion on women in a world of war and discrimination, and the concluding meeting "The cuisine of yesteryear."
Each day was introduced by young performers—pianists such as Sebastian De Sanctis, Marco Angelo Quattrocchi, and Valerio Montaldi, the Gambini-Serpilli duo, guitarist Riccardo Morgante, and the group Blackshot—confirming the festival's commitment to showcasing talent from the Marsica region.
Avezzano can be reached by car via the A25 Rome-Pescara motorway (Avezzano exit) and by train along the Rome-Pescara-Sulmona line. The main venue for the festival is the Pro Loco of Avezzano, located at Via Corradini 75.
All events are free and open to the public.
The full program is available on the Centro Giuridico del Cittadino website and the association's social media channels.
